Dump truck hauling asphalt overturns, traffic detoured near Whispering Pines

Published on

A dump truck hauling asphalt overturned Thursday morning on Highway 22, just outside Whispering Pines.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection with Michael Road. Troopers told Moore County News the truck veered off the right side of the highway and was unable to get back on the road before tipping over.

The shoulder appeared soft and saturated with water, which may have contributed to the rollover. The load of asphalt spilled onto parts of the roadway and the shoulder, adding to the cleanup effort.

The driver was not seriously hurt. Firefighters redirected northbound traffic toward Carthage onto Michael Road, while keeping one lane open for southbound traffic.

Officials say this traffic pattern could last for several hours while crews work to clear the scene.
