A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash that ended with a pickup truck flipping over on McInnis Road at Holly Road near Lakeview on Saturday morning.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Chevy pickup truck traveling south on Wallace Road veered off the right shoulder, crashing through a fence and into a pasture. The truck continued for approximately 50 yards, smashing through a second fence before hitting an embankment.
Investigators say the impact sent the vehicle airborne. It landed on McInnis Road and overturned, coming to rest with its roof completely caved in.
Troopers say the driver was likely not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and that speed contributed to the accident.
