Driver hospitalized after SUV flips off Highway 15-501, hits power pole

A driver was taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 15-501 Saturday afternoon.

It happened between Highway 24-27 and McCrimmon Road when the driver of a GMC Envoy lost control while heading southbound, according to troopers. The vehicle ran off the right side of the road, sideswiped a power pole, went down an embankment and flipped.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was transported to the hospital. Troopers have not released the extent of their injuries.

The crash forced the closure of the southbound lane of Highway 15-501 for a period of time. Carthage firefighters directed southbound traffic into the center lane until the scene was cleared.

Duke Energy crews also responded to repair the damaged power pole.
