Driver charged with DWI after head-on collision

A driver has been charged with DWI after a head-on collision along Grady Road near Union Church Road, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the driver of a Mercedes sedan was traveling north on Grady Road around 6 p.m. when they crossed the centerline and collided with a Ford pick-up truck. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, completely ripping the front wheel off the Ford. The Ford slid nearly 100 yards from the point of impact without it’s front wheel before coming to a stop.

Debris from the vehicles could be seen scattered along Grady Road, causing the entire road to be closed from Union Church Road to Shaw Road.

No one was seriously injured in the crash.
