Driver airlifted after head-on crash on Highway 211

Published on

A two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Highway 211 near Love Grove Church Road left several people injured, including a woman who had to be airlifted to a trauma center.

Officials said the driver of a Smart car may have suffered a medical episode before crossing into oncoming traffic. The car collided head-on with a Kia.

When first responders arrived, they found the Smart car driver trapped in the wreckage. Crews from West End Fire and Rescue used the jaws of life to free her before she was flown to a trauma center. Her condition has not been released.

Other people involved in the crash were taken to Moore Regional Hospital with what officials believe are non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic along Highway 211 was detoured in the area while crews worked the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
