Crash reduces U.S. 15-501 to one lane near Lamms Grove Road

A crash involving two vehicles reduced a section of U.S. Highway 15-501 to one lane for over an hour Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. between Cannon Road and Lamms Grove Road. According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Chevy Equinox was traveling northbound when they crossed over the centerline into the southbound lanes.

The driver of a Subaru Forester swerved to avoid a head-on collision, resulting in the two vehicles sideswiping each other. Both vehicles sustained significant damage to the driver’s side.

Witnesses say several other southbound vehicles also had to swerve to avoid colliding with the Equinox.

Four people were transported to the hospital following the crash — three from the Equinox and one from the Forester. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The highway was reduced to one lane for a little over an hour as emergency crews worked the scene. The road is now back open.
