A driver was taken to the hospital with a head injury Saturday evening after a Corvette went off Union Church Road and struck a tree.

The single-vehicle crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. near Henderson Road.

A witness at the scene told Moore County News the Corvette had pulled out of a driveway and was “driving crazy” before the driver lost control.

Tire marks visible on the roadway indicated the Corvette fishtailed for several yards before leaving the right side of the road and striking a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to spin, and it came to rest facing the opposite direction from which it had been traveling.

Two people were inside the Corvette, according to first responders.

Neighbors reportedly helped the driver and passenger get out of the vehicle after the crash because the Corvette was smoking following the impact.

The driver suffered a significant head injury, and emergency personnel initially planned to have the patient flown to a trauma center. AirCare was unable to fly, and the driver was instead transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

The driver’s injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to an urgent care facility.

Union Church Road was reduced to one lane for approximately 30 minutes while emergency crews worked at the scene.
