Moore County is in for a break from the summer heat this weekend as cooler temperatures and widespread rain move into the region.
The forecast calls for highs in the upper 70s to low 80s across Moore County on Saturday and Sunday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely both days. The stretch of wet weather is expected to bring temporary relief after weeks of intense heat and humidity.
Rain chances will begin to increase Friday night as a cold front moves in from the west. The National Weather Service says the front will stall over the area, keeping conditions unsettled through the weekend.
While the rain may dampen some outdoor plans, it could also bring much-needed moisture to local farms and gardens. Parts of Moore County have slipped into abnormally dry conditions following a hot and dry July.
The cool down is expected to be short-lived, with temperatures rebounding into the upper 80s and low 90s by early next week. Still, forecasters say the weekend weather offers a welcome—if brief—respite from the heat of summer.
