A crash reduced U.S. Highway 15-501 to one lane in Eastwood on Monday evening, sending a woman to the hospital.

First responders from Eastwood Fire Department arrived on the scene near Doubs Chapel Road around 7:20 p.m. They climbed down a steep embankment to the heavily damaged car to help the driver out of the vehicle. The single-occupant was transported to the hospital by Moore County EMS.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. Troopers tell Moore County News tire marks indicate the driver crossed the center line, over corrected back to the right, went off the road and down the steep embankment. The car overturned at least once before landing up right against a tree. What caused the driver to cross the center line is unknown.

The highway was completely shut down for approximately 20 minutes while a tow truck worked to remove the vehicle.
