Early voting turnout in Moore County is running ahead of the 2022 midterm election, with more than 18,000 ballots cast ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
According to the Moore County Board of Elections, 17,133 residents voted in person through Monday, Oct. 26. An additional 1,076 absentee-by-mail ballots have been accepted, according to Carolina Forward’s turnout tracker, bringing the combined total to 18,209 ballots.
Carolina Forward, a North Carolina-based nonprofit organization, reports that early voting turnout in Moore County is running 23% higher than at the same point in the 2022 midterm election.
The organization’s turnout tracker compares voting participation across election cycles, including in-person early voting and accepted absentee-by-mail ballots.
The increase indicates stronger early voting participation compared with four years ago, although it does not necessarily mean overall turnout will finish higher. Some residents may simply be choosing to cast their ballots early rather than waiting until Election Day.
Monday records highest daily turnout so far
Monday, Oct. 26, was the busiest day of early voting so far in Moore County, with 2,063 residents casting ballots across the county’s three early voting locations.
That surpassed the previous daily high of 2,031 voters recorded Friday, Oct. 16.
The Aberdeen Recreation Station continues to lead the county in early voting participation, accounting for nearly half of all in-person ballots cast.
According to the Moore County Board of Elections, turnout at each location through Monday was:
- Aberdeen Recreation Station: 8,511 voters.
- Moore County Agricultural Center in Carthage: 6,935 voters.
- Vass Town Hall: 1,687 voters.
Aberdeen accounts for approximately 49.7% of all in-person early votes cast in Moore County, followed by Carthage at 40.5% and Vass at 9.8%.
These location totals reflect in-person voting only and do not include absentee-by-mail ballots.
Early voting continues through Saturday
Moore County residents have until Saturday, Oct. 31, to cast their ballots during the early voting period.
Three early voting locations are available:
- Aberdeen Recreation Station, 301 Lake Park Crossing, Aberdeen.
- Moore County Agricultural Center, 707 Pinehurst Ave., Carthage.
- Vass Town Hall, 140 S. Alma St., Vass.
All three locations are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 31, the final day of early voting, locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registered Moore County voters may cast their ballots at any of the three locations during early voting, regardless of their assigned Election Day precinct.
Eligible residents who missed the regular voter registration deadline may also register and vote during the early voting period.
Voters are asked to bring an acceptable photo ID. Those who do not have one may still vote through the state’s photo ID exception process.
Election Day is Nov. 3
Residents who do not participate in early voting can cast their ballots Tuesday, Nov. 3, at their assigned polling location.
Unlike early voting, residents must vote at their designated precinct on Election Day. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Voters can check their registration status, find their assigned polling location and review their sample ballot through the North Carolina State Board of Elections website at www.ncsbe.gov.
