A large water main break in Southern Pines has damaged a roadway and left some residents without water or experiencing low water pressure Monday night.
The break was reported near the intersection of Yadkin Road and Boiling Spring Circle on Monday, Oct. 19.
According to the Town of Southern Pines, crews with the town’s Water Department were on the scene as of 9:30 p.m., working to address the break and assess the damage.
The water main break has caused damage to the roadway, forcing officials to close the affected section of Yadkin Road while repairs are made.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and find alternate routes until the roadway can safely reopen.
The problems extend beyond the road closure. Southern Pines water customers have reported interruptions in service, with some experiencing complete water outages while others are dealing with reduced water pressure.
Town officials have not yet provided details on how many customers are affected or how widespread the water service disruptions may be.
As of Monday night, there was no estimated timeline for completing the repairs or restoring normal water service.
It is also unclear how long the damaged section of Yadkin Road will remain closed.
Residents who normally travel through the area should plan for possible delays and continue avoiding the intersection while crews work.
