A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured Thursday morning in a crash involving a golf cart and an SUV along N.C. 5 in Pinehurst.
The crash happened around 7:51 a.m. at the intersection of N.C. 5, also known as Beulah Hill Road, and Shaw Road SW.
Information gathered at the scene indicated the golf cart was crossing N.C. 5 along Shaw Road when it entered the path of a northbound Hyundai Kona. Pinehurst Police said the circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.

The female passenger of the golf cart was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of the golf cart was airlifted to UNC Hospitals with serious injuries.
A dog that was riding on the golf cart was also killed in the crash.
Pinehurst Police Chief Glen Webb confirmed the man and woman were related, but did not provide additional information about their relationship.
The driver of the Hyundai Kona was also transported to a hospital. No information about that driver’s condition was released.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life this morning, as well as everyone affected by this tragic crash,” Webb said. “Our officers are working carefully to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision, and we ask for patience as that investigation continues.”
The Pinehurst Police Department’s Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.
N.C. 5 was closed between Cherokee Road and Linden Road for several hours following the crash. The road reopened before noon Thursday.
