Driver escapes serious injury after tree falls on vehicle near Cameron

A driver escaped serious, life-threatening injuries after a large tree fell onto a vehicle traveling along U.S. 15-501 near Cannon Road in Cameron Saturday afternoon.

The vehicle, a white Toyota Prius, was traveling northbound along the highway when the tree came down across the driver’s side of the vehicle and windshield.

Firefighters responding to the scene had to cut the rear door from the Prius to gain access to the driver and remove them from the vehicle.

Officials told Moore County News at the scene that the driver did not suffer any apparent life-threatening injuries.

The large tree blocked both directions of U.S. 15-501, forcing the highway to close while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The road was closed for a little more than an hour before reopening to traffic.
