A late night crash shut down Highway 211 in both directions on Sunday after a car struck and split a power pole near the intersection of Highway 73, according to state troopers.
The single vehicle crash happened around 10:45 PM when the driver of a 2025 Honda Accord became distracted, ran off the right side of the road, and hit a utility pole with enough force to break it in half. Troopers said two people were inside the vehicle at the time, and neither was injured.
The driver was cited for failure to maintain lane control, according to SHP.
Emergency crews responded quickly and closed the roadway so Duke Energy crews could safely replace the damaged pole. Drivers in the area experienced delays as workers made repairs through the night.
