A woman was taken to the hospital after a crash near the intersection of U.S. 1 Business and Vass-Carthage Road Monday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Vass Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway, according to a CPFR Facebook post. A witness told officials they saw the car run off the road, disappear into the trees, and come to rest near a retaining wall.

First responders found the vehicle behind the Citgo store across from Vass-Carthage Road. Investigators said the driver ran through the stop sign, crossed U.S. 1 Business, and entered a wooded area before coming to a stop.

Firefighters and EMS crews helped the driver out of the vehicle. Officials said it appeared she may have experienced a medical issue before the crash. She was taken to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The Vass Police Department is handling the investigation.
