Head-on crash shuts down part of Highway 24-27

A late-night crash closed a stretch of Highway 24-27 near Cranes Creek Road after two cars collided head-on Saturday.

The wreck happened around 11:50 p.m. and involved a Toyota Solara and a Honda Civic, according to officials. Highway 24-27 was shut down in both directions between Cranes Creek Road and Bryant Road while crews worked the scene.

Troopers said the driver of the Toyota crossed the center line into the path of the oncoming Honda. The two cars collided head-on at the front driver’s side headlight.

The male driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital with what troopers believe are non-life-threatening injuries. He is now facing several charges, including left of center, reckless driving, driving without an operator’s license, and DWI.

Several people in the Honda, including a pregnant woman, were rushed by ambulance to the hospital. Their conditions have not yet been released.
