Officials continue to monitor Crystal Lake, emergency shelter to open tonight

Published on

Moore County Public Safety officials are closely monitoring conditions at Crystal Lake in the Lakeview community, located just south of Vass. While water is no longer flowing over the dam or nearby roadway, crews remain on alert as efforts continue to safely lower the lake’s water levels.

According to county officials, all spillway gates at Crystal Lake are open and releasing water in a controlled manner. This operation is being carried out in coordination with the North Carolina Dam Safety Inspector to relieve pressure on the dam following recent flooding concerns.

Authorities are also keeping a close watch on low-lying areas downstream of the dam for any signs of additional flooding. Residents in the area are urged to stay cautious and monitor local updates for changing conditions.

An emergency shelter will open tonight, Monday, July 7, at 7:00 p.m. at the Moore County Agricultural Center, located at 707 Pinehurst Avenue in Carthage.

Officials are reminding residents across Moore County to remain vigilant, especially when traveling at night. Flooded roads can be difficult to spot in the dark, and drivers are urged to follow the safety message: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

Residents experiencing power outages are asked to report them directly to their power provider. For information about road clearing or closures, contact the North Carolina Department of Transportation by calling 511 or visiting drivenc.gov.
