An individual previously arrested after a high-speed chase through Aberdeen in March was taken into custody again Wednesday and Thursday following more pursuits — his second arrest in just 24 hours and his third in less than two months, according to authorities.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office says Thursday’s chase began around 3 p.m. on U.S. Highway 15-501 north between Pinehurst and Carthage. Deputies pursued the fleeing vehicle onto Shady Lane Road, where items allegedly thrown from the vehicle later identified as controlled substances were discovered.
The chase, reaching speeds up to 90 miles per hour, continued onto Jody Road, then Cook Road, eventually leaving the pavement and tearing through a driveway and open field before coming to an end. Two suspects, Jamar Brooks Hailey and Phylis Conner McCrimmon, were arrested at the scene.
Authorities say Hailey has had multiple recent encounters with law enforcement. He was involved in a March 4 chase through Pinehurst and Aberdeen. In that incident, the driver, identified as Alanna Shay Peterson, allegedly attempted to strike a law enforcement officer before crashing into a home in Aberdeen, officials said.
Just one day before Thursday’s incident, on April 23, both Hailey and Peterson were arrested. Hailey faced charges of resisting a public officer, driving with a revoked license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Peterson was charged with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and resisting a public officer.
Hailey was charged with more than a dozen drug-related offenses stemming from Thursday’s incident and was held without bond by a Moore County magistrate. McCrimmon, the driver in Thursday’s incident, was also charged with multiple drug-related offenses along with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. She is also being held without bond.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details regarding the controlled substances recovered or the initial reason for the traffic stop that led to the latest pursuit.
A previous version of this article identified Peterson as the driver in Thursday’s incident. However, authorities have since updated their statement to Moore County News, clarifying that McCrimmon was the second suspect arrested during Thursday’s chase.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
