Firefighters responded to an apartment fire Wednesday morning at 135 Murray Hill Road, marking the second blaze at the complex in less than six months.
Crews were dispatched just after 10 a.m. and arrived to find flames and smoke pouring from the rear windows of apartment unit 3. Southern Pines Fire Chief Mike Cameron told Moore County News the unit was believed to be vacant, but evidence suggests someone may have been occupying it at the time of the fire. No one was inside the apartment when crews arrived, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the first floor, though smoke and water damage affected the entire unit. No neighboring apartments were damaged.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This is the second fire at the complex since last fall. On October 26, 2024, a separate fire displaced multiple residents.
