A high-speed chase spanning three counties and reaching speeds of approximately 100 mph led to an arrest on Wednesday.

The chase began when a Moore County Sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop on a blue Chevy Malibu along Lakebay Road near Vass. The driver allegedly sped away during the stop.

According to scanner traffic from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit continued onto Highway 690 from Lakebay Road, heading toward Vass at speeds nearing 100 mph. The chase lasted approximately 10 to 15 minutes, weaving through rural roads in the Lobelia area, including McLauchlin Road, before crossing into Harnett County via Line Road, Pilson Road, and Cypress Church Road. The pursuit then circled back into Moore County on McPherson Road, re-entering Highway 690 toward Fort Bragg. Moore County deputies ultimately called off the chase after it entered Cumberland County.

Authorities issued a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) alert for the blue Chevy Malibu, and within a few hours, it was spotted in Richmond County. Richmond County authorities conducted a traffic stop and took the driver, identified by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office as Aaron Bert Ramsey Jr., into custody. Ramsey was then transferred to Moore County authorities and booked into the Moore County Detention Center.

Ramsey faces multiple charges according to arrest records, including fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving with wanton disregard, and unsafe passing into oncoming traffic. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 2, 2025.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
