Police chase ends with one person in custody

A police chase that involved multiple agencies ended on U.S. 1 with one person in custody.

According to police scanner communications, the driver of a Volkswagen did not stop after an initial attempt of a traffic stop along N.C. Highway 24-27. The officer pursuing the Volkswagen asked for addition police units from Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Vass Police, and Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver turned northbound on U.S. 1 from Highway 24-27, and came to a stop at the bottom of the ramp.

The officer radioed the subject in the Volkswagen was not responding to commands, and was moving around a lot in the vehicle.

Officers were able to get the driver to comply, and placed the driver in custody. Deputies requested Moore County EMS to respond to the scene, as the driver allegedly ingested some narcotics, according to scanner communications.

The driver was transported to the hospital, and is facing multiple charges.
