A single-vehicle crash closed Linden Road near Freeman Way just outside of Pinehurst on Thanksgiving night. The call came in just around 10 p.m. via the vehicle’s OnStar service.

A GMC Acadia was traveling outbound from Pinehurst when the driver went off the right side of the road, colliding with a road sign, a fence, a tree, and a guy wire on a power pole. The Acadia had heavy front end damage from the impacts, and piece of the wooden fence is embedded in the front of the vehicle.

Dispatchers reported a child could be heard crying through the OnStar system, and placed UNC Carolina Air Care on standby.

Troopers investigating the crash say the male driver appeared to be intoxicated, and he refused a field sobriety test. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of DWI. Speed was also a factor in the crash, according to NCSHP.

Neither the driver, which was the child’s father, nor the child appeared to be injured at the scene. MCN saw the father holding the child while walking around until the driver’s father came to the scene to pick up the child. However, the child was transported by EMS to be checked out at the hospital as a precaution. Air Care was not needed.

The driver is facing multiple charges.
