A Vass home suffered smoke damage after a pot on a stove caught fire.

Officials say a person in the home was cooking with a pot containing oil that caught fire just before 11:30 a.m., and the flames moved to cabinets near the stove. Heavy smoke could be seen when Cypress Pointe Fire arrived to the home. The first arriving unit was able to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread to other parts of the home.

One lane of Union Church Road was closed while firefighters were on scene.
