A democratic candidate for the N.C. House of Representatives has been arrested in connection with stealing roadside campaign signs in Seven Lakes. Lowell Simon, 68, of West End, was arrested and charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny of political signs on Friday morning.

According to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Simon was seen by a deputy on October 10, 2024 removing campaign signs from the side of Seven Lakes Drive. The deputy was responding to an unrelated call at the time, and later followed up with Simon at this residence. The signs were found inside of Simon’s vehicle, and Simon admitted to removing the signs, according to a press release by the MCSO.

Simon was released on a written promise to appear in court, his first court appearance is scheduled for October 30, 2024 in Moore County District Court. Simon is currently running to represent District 78 in the North Carolina House of Representatives, and he is also the Chair of the Democratic Party in Moore County.

Sheriff Ronnie Fields wants to remind the public that the removal or theft of campaign signs is against the law in North Carolina. The signs allegedly taken by Simon were returned to their original owner.
