Friday afternoon brought heavy rain, lightning and thunder to most of Moore County, the heaviest in the southern end of the area.

The downpour caused roads to have flash flooding leading to several crashes in the area. Along U.S. 1 in Southern Pines, an SUV hydroplaned along the northbound lanes near Midland Road. The vehicle ended up going off the road and down an embankment. No one was reported to be injured.

In Pinebluff, another crash involving a vehicle hydroplaning on U.S. 1 near Albany Avenue. According to scanner radio traffic, that vehicle struck a stop sign and a tree.

The football games for all three Moore County high schools were impacted by the storms as well.

Union Pines is delayed until at least 8pm. Pinecrest will now play at 10am tomorrow. North Moore’s away game has been postponed until Monday.
