At least four water rescues were conducted within a 24-hour period near N.C. Highway 690 east of Vass on Friday, according to first responders. Moore County News was on scene for one of the rescues, and was able to get drone video from the area.

First responders were able to help two people out of their vehicle, and escape the flood waters along Riverview Drive outside of Vass. During that rescue, they saw a man sitting in his truck in the flooded road after he tried to leave his home due to flooding. Initially he told those first responders he was fine and didn’t need help. After a few hours, and as waters continued to rise, the man decided to call for help.

There are no reported injuries in any of the water rescues that have taken place. Emergency crews ask motorists to avoid the Highway 690 area if possible, and to not drive through flooded roads.

Multiple roads in the area are closed, and will remain closed until the water recedes. They include, but are not limited to:

  • McPherson Road behind Dollar General, water is going over the bridge
  • Morrison Bridge Road at McGill
  • Riverview Drive
  • Creekbend Drive

Motorist can check the Crains Creek Fire Department Facebook page for updates on road conditions.
