A near head-on collision closed Highway 73 in Jackson Springs Thursday just before 10 a.m. at the intersection with Jackson Springs Road.

According to N.C. State Highway Patrol investigating the crash, a Honda Civic with two people inside was traveling on Jackson Springs Road when the male driver failed to stop at a top sign, colliding into the front passenger side of a Hyundai Santa Fe.

The male driver of the Santa Fe was also transported by helicopter to a trauma center from a landing zone set up near the site of the crash.
