2 crashes on Hwy 15-501 lead to 2 DWI arrests

Law enforcement made two separate arrests for DWI after two separate crashes within a mile of each other on Highway 15-501.

The first incident happened on 15-501 at Lea Road in front of Tommy’s Crown convenience store. A Jeep collided with a Nissan pick-up truck after the Nissan failed to stop at a stop sign. Troopers say the driver of the Nissan was traveling on Lea Road and ran the stop sign at 15-501 trying to cross over to the store. The Jeep, traveling southbound on 15-501 t-boned the Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan was administered a field sobriety test, and refused to do a breathalyzer at the scene.

The Pinehurst Fire Department closed the northbound and center lanes of the highway, and worked to clear the scene. Moore County EMS checked on the people involved, there were no injuries.

The second incident happened just up 15-501 at the intersection with Highway 73.

A Ford pick-up truck went into a ditch on the southbound side of the highway.

The driver showed several signs of intoxication and refused to do a breathalyzer at the scene.

Eastwood Fire Department closed the right turn lane for Highway 73 from Highway 15-501 while the crash was cleared.
