Two separate crashes resulted after a tree fell onto Highway 24-27 outside of Robbins on Friday.

The wrecks occurred near Marley Road, when a tree fell into the roadway as a strong storm system moved through the area around 9:30 a.m.

According to authorities, the first crash happened when an Acura traveling east on the highway struck the tree in the road way. A passenger from the Acura was removing the tree from the roadway when the second crash happened. In the second crash, the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee slammed into the back of a RAM work van that was stopped on the highway because of the downed tree. The impact caused the work van to collide into the back of a Chevrolet Suburban, also stopped because of the tree.

Robbins Fire & Rescue closed the eastbound lane of Highway 24-27, and directed traffic around the crash scene.

The two occupants of the Suburban were transposed to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Jeep was evaluated at the scene. The driver of the RAM work van was not injured.
