A Sunday afternoon fire destroyed a home on Elmer Place in Eagle Springs, displacing four residents and killing a family dog.
The fire was reported around 3 p.m. Sunday. When the first fire crews arrived, they encountered heavy flames and thick smoke pouring from the home. Initial reports from the homeowner raised concern that someone may still be inside, but firefighters were later able to confirm that all occupants had safely made it out.
Firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour before it was completely extinguished. Despite their efforts, the home was a total loss. Tragically, a dog did not survive the fire.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents with temporary shelter and other immediate needs.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
