A woman was taken to the hospital after telling Hoke County deputies she was pulled into a van, assaulted and later pushed from the vehicle Saturday.

According to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Saturday, Sept. 12, to the intersection of Oakdale Gin Road and Scott Currie Road, where they found a woman in the grass along the side of the road.

The woman told deputies she had been walking along a road when an unknown man pulled her into a blue or black van. She reported that another man was driving the vehicle.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the woman said she was punched in the eye and assaulted with a knife before later being pushed from the van.

Emergency medical personnel were called, and the woman was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office described the vehicle as a dark-colored van. The release did not specify where the woman was reportedly pulled into the vehicle or where she was pushed from it.

Detectives responded to the hospital, and the incident remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office said investigators believe it was an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the public.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Sgt. Detective Hoskins at 910-875-5111. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 910-878-1100.
