Wheels ripped off in two-vehicle crash near Cameron

Published on

Two people were taken to the hospital Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on N.C. Highway 24-27 at Blackburn Road, just outside of Cameron.

The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. when a westbound Chevrolet Impala veered off the right side of the highway, according to state troopers. Investigators say the driver overcorrected, causing the car to sideswipe an eastbound Chevrolet Cruze.

The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway, ripping at least one wheel off each car. Both drivers were the only occupants in their vehicles and suffered minor injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Fire crews shut down the eastbound lane of the highway while emergency personnel responded to the scene. Traffic was temporarily routed through a single open lane as cleanup and investigation efforts continued.

Troopers have not released the identities of the drivers.
