Vehicle fire closes Southern Pines intersection Monday afternoon

A vehicle fire temporarily closed an intersection in Southern Pines Monday afternoon while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of East Indiana Avenue and South May Street at 1:12 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was fully involved in flames.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control, with the blaze extinguished by approximately 1:18 p.m., about six minutes after the initial call.

The driver of the vehicle was evaluated at the scene by paramedics. It was not immediately clear whether the driver was transported to the hospital or the extent of any injuries.

The intersection was closed while emergency crews worked at the scene and the vehicle was removed. The scene was cleared at approximately 2:15 p.m.

No cause of the fire has been released.
