A closet fire caused by an electrical issue has forced two Southern Pines residents from their home.

The fire started just after 6:30 p.m. Monday on Fairway Drive near Central Drive.

Southern Pines Fire officials told Moore County News at the scene that the fire originated from an electrical panel in the home’s primary bedroom. The flames were contained to the closet, preventing major damage to the rest of the house.

Power to the home was shut off to prevent further damage, forcing the residents to spend the night in a hotel.

No one was injured during the fire.
