A woman was injured late Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 24-27 near Harnett Road.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 11 p.m. when the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle crossed the centerline, veered off the opposite side of the road, and struck several trees, troopers say. One of the trees broke in half, with the top nearly piercing through the windshield.

Despite the severity of the crash, the driver managed to exit the vehicle on her own. She was transported to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Highway 24-27 was reduced to one lane for approximately an hour while the crash was investigated and cleared.
