Teen rescued after being trapped under overturned truck near county line

Published on

A teenage girl was rescued early Saturday morning after being trapped under the cab of an overturned pickup truck in a crash along South Plank Road, near the Lee-Moore county line.

According to a post by Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue on Facebook, emergency crews were initially dispatched around 3 a.m. to what was believed to be a crash in Lee County. Upon arrival, first responders determined the wreck had occurred just inside the Moore County line.

Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue was called in as a second rescue unit due to reports that a teenager was pinned beneath the vehicle. Working alongside the Lemon Springs Fire Department, firefighters used rescue jacks, cribbing, and a winch to lift the truck and free the trapped girl.

Officials say two other occupants in the vehicle were able to get out on their own. One of them was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The teenage girl remained conscious and alert throughout the rescue. She was transported by Lee County EMS to a designated landing zone, where a medical helicopter flew her to a trauma center for further care.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
