A driver is lucky to be unharmed after a dramatic crash sent his Nissan Armada and trailer off N.C. Highway 24-27 and into a creek near Carthage on Wednesday evening.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound near J Dowdy Road around 7 p.m. when it ran off the right side of the road, went down a steep embankment, hit a tree, and came to rest in a creek bed.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was not injured.

Emergency crews briefly shut down the eastbound lane of the highway while evaluating the scene and ensuring the area was safe for other drivers.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
