Southern Pines Police are asking for the community’s help after multiple gunshots were fired at Brookside Park Apartments late Wednesday afternoon, with at least one round entering an occupied unit and injuring a resident.
Officers responded shortly after 5 p.m. for a report of a shooting into an occupied dwelling. When they arrived, they found one person who had been hurt by the shot that entered the apartment. Police said the injury was not life threatening, and the individual received treatment.
Investigators said one or more suspects fled the area in a white SUV moments after the gunfire. Detectives are now working to identify everyone involved in the incident.
Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing. They are urging residents to check home security cameras and share any footage that may show vehicles or individuals in the area at the time of the shooting. Witness accounts are also encouraged.
As officers worked the shooting case, a separate investigation unfolded nearby on Wednesday evening after two people were found dead in the same area. Authorities said those deaths were not connected to the shooting. According to officials, the two individuals died from an apparent accidental overdose.
