Shots fired at Seven Lakes gas station, West End man arrested

A shooting took place this morning at the Shell gas station on N.C. Highway 211 in Seven Lakes around 9:30 a.m. Moore County News saw multiple Sheriff Deputies at the store investigating an area near the entrance closest to O’Reilly Auto Parts.

A witness at the scene says a guy came into the store to pump gas and “started talking crazy” and said he “was the new Sheriff in town,” went back out to his vehicle, got his gas and then started firing shots into the ground. The witness also says no one appeared to be hit by the gun fire.

Shortly after our initial story was posted, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on their facebook page confirming shots were fired at the store.

In an initial press release from the MCSO, the man left in his vehicle after firing the shots and vehicle matching the description of the shooters vehicle was spotted within minutes and deputies conducted a traffic stop. In an updated press release, they confirm that the man did not leave the scene. MSCO stated the first responding deputy arrived as the shots were being fired and ordered the shooter to put the handgun down, and the man complied. The shooter was taken into custody without incident and was identified as Anthony Lee Furr, 67, of West End. There is no indication of an ongoing threat and no injuries were reported.

Furr has been charged with Go Armed to Terror of People and carrying a concealed weapon. His first court appearance is set for July 24, 2024.
