A young driver escaped injury Wednesday morning after swerving off U.S. Highway 15-501 and crashing into a tree near Cannon Road.

The single-vehicle accident happened around 8:30 a.m. when the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck veered off the roadway to avoid vehicles that were slowing down to turn onto Cannon Road, according to officials at the scene.

The truck left the highway and struck a tree. No injuries were reported.

Traffic along U.S. 15-501 was delayed for a short period as one lane was temporarily closed while emergency crews responded and the scene was cleared.
