Teen airlifted in critical condition after shooting near Vass

A teenager was airlifted to a trauma center in critical condition after being shot Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. along a home on Sandy Oak Road, just outside of Vass.

Officials say the alleged shooter is also a teenager and is believed to be the victim’s brother. While early dispatch reports suggested there may have been an argument involved, investigators say they have found no evidence of a dispute and currently believe the shooting was accidental.

Because both individuals involved are minors, the Sheriff’s Office says it is limited by law in the amount of information it can release at this time.

The victim’s current condition has not been released. The Moore County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
