A storage shed behind a Highfalls home caught fire Tuesday afternoon near Highway 22 near Kidd Road. The fire broke out before 2:30 p.m., sending black smoke visible for miles.
Fire command told Moore County News at the scene that the homeowner was burning leaves when the flames quickly spread out of control. The fire reached a storage shed, which erupted in flames. By the time the first fire units arrived, the structure was fully involved, and the fire was advancing toward a second building on the property.

Several trees also caught fire, keeping firefighters busy extinguishing hot spots. No injuries were reported, and one lane of Highway 22 was closed while fire crews worked at the scene.
It was the second fully involved structure fire in Moore County on Tuesday. A two-alarm fire was dispatched just before 1 p.m. at the Fat Monkey Express on Carthage Road in West End.
