A Robbins man died in a crash that happened on Bascom Chapel Road around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Troopers tell Moore County News the man was driving a Ford Focus north on Bascom Chapel Road near Allred Road when he ran off the right side of the road, down a steep embankment and collided with several trees. The man was not wearing a seat belt, according to investigators.

Firefighters had to use a ladder on the embankment to safely reach the vehicle. The driver was the only occupant of the Focus and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members of the driver arrived at the scene during the investigation, and were notified about the circumstances of the crash.

Bascom Chapel Road was closed for over two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
