A Greensboro police officer has died after a shooting inside a Food Lion store in the 4700 block of Lawndale Drive in Greensboro.

In a press conference, Greensboro Police officials announced Officer Michael Horan was killed when he responded to the Food Lion after reports of a person with a handgun. The shooting took place before 11 a.m. on Monday, two days before Christmas. The suspect left the store in a vehicle after the shooting.

Greensboro Police said the suspect has been arrested with the help of other law enforcement agencies. Multiple reports say the suspect’s vehicle was stopped on I-40 East near mile marker 360. The interstate was shut down for some time, and there was a heavy police presence.

The SBI has been requested to investigate the shooting. No further details about the shooting were released during the press conference.

Several roads in the area of the Food Lion were closed for most of Monday, including the exits from I-840 onto Lawndale.
