The Moore County Sheriff’s Office has released more details on the fatal shooting that happened in the Seven Lakes West community on Friday.

The victim, identified as Rachael Loken, was in another room when she was struck by a gunshot fired by her husband, Christopher Loken, according to a press release from the MCSO. While the shooting was reported as accidental, investigators are examining all aspects of the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

West End Fire & Rescue Chief Erik Stromberg confirmed to Moore County News that the incident involves the family of an active volunteer fireman with WEFD.

“We ask that you keep the family involved as well as the responders and our entire department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Stromberg said.

The MCSO says investigators are actively working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
