A large outside fire spread to an abandoned chicken house on Martin Road near Eagle Springs on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters from all over Moore County and parts of Montgomery County were on the scene to put out the blaze.
Officials say the fire started after a controlled burn that was conducted the day before rekindled and quickly spread. Shortly after firefighters arrived on scene, the flames had reached an old abandoned chicken house, causing the fire to be upgraded to a structure fire. A large field and surround woods were also seen burning by Moore County News crews that were at the scene.
Martin Road was reduced to one lane of travel while crews worked the fire. The North Carolina Forestry Service was also on scene with a plow creating a fire line to prevent further spread.
Fire crews were called out to the same location Wednesday evening for a small rekindle of the fire, and were able to quickly extinguish the flames once again.
