Highway 24-27 closed due to power lines in roadway

Published on

N.C. Highway 24-27 was closed between Bethlehem Church Road and Kelly Plantation Road due to a downed power line in the roadway.

Strong winds moving through the area caused a tree to fall on the line and into the roadway around 8:30 a.m. Carthage Fire Department decided to close the road until power crews could arrive on the scene.

Carthage Police officers directed westbound traffic onto Bethlehem Church Road, detouring to J Dowdy Road to get back to the highway.

Moore County Sheriff Deputies directed traffic to Kelly Plantation Road, detouring to Coles Mill Road then Old Glendon Road to get back on Highway 24-27.

The highway was closed for over three hours before power crews were able to arrive and remove the line from the road. Authorities reopened the road just before 12:15 p.m.
