A structure fire off Saunders Boulevard near Bronwyn Street Saturday afternoon just after 1:30 p.m. resulted in the total loss of a storage building and multiple vehicles, as Moore County News observed on scene.

The incident was first dispatched as an outside fire but was quickly upgraded to a working structure fire as flames spread to a nearby building. Fire crews reported seeing heavy black smoke rising high into the sky, visible from several miles away.

The structure, believed to be used as a storage building and work garage, was destroyed in the fire. Several vehicles on the property were also lost.

Fire departments from Aberdeen, Southern Pines, Pinebluff, Pinehurst and Cypress Pointe responded to the scene and worked to contain the blaze.

One firefighter was reported to have become overheated while battling the fire and was evaluated by medics on scene. The firefighter is expected to be OK.

There have been no other immediate reports of injuries.

Saunders Boulevard remains shut down to traffic in the area as crews continue to work on scene and assess the damage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
