A two-vehicle crash caused traffic disruptions along U.S. Highway 15-501 Monday afternoon in front of Cox’s Harley-Davidson.

The wreck happened around 2 p.m. when a northbound Hyundai Venue slowed for a turning vehicle. According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu failed to reduce speed in time and attempted to swerve off the road to avoid a collision, but still struck the Venue from behind.

The impact caused the Malibu to spin, coming to rest facing the opposite direction of travel.

No one inside the Hyundai Venue was injured, but the driver of the Malibu and a child passenger were transported to the hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

Authorities partially closed the highway while first responders worked the scene. Southbound traffic was rerouted through a nearby parking lot, and northbound vehicles were detoured to Lea Road. The highway fully reopened just after 2:30 p.m.
