Crash at Carthage crossover sends one to hospital, blocks southbound 15-501

A two-vehicle crash at the Monroe Street crossover to Highway 15-501 in Carthage sent one person to the hospital Friday afternoon and shut down a portion of the highway.

The crash happened at an intersection known for frequent collisions. According to Carthage Police, a Ford Excursion was attempting to cross over Highway 15-501 from Monroe Street when it failed to yield to a southbound Jeep Liberty. The Jeep struck the Excursion on the driver’s side front wheel area.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Two occupants in the Excursion declined medical attention at the scene.

The southbound lane of Highway 15-501 was temporarily closed while emergency crews investigated and cleared the wreck.
